The Other Side

No fortress fastness

Nor iron bound portico

Slammed with harshness

Greater than that final click

Of this two inch wooden door.

That cold, lifeless eye

Staring mutely in judgement

Of my many faults,

A hard, heartless, harbinger

Of the aching cold to come.
