Its darkness rent assunder
By a rising sun.
Stark illuminating rays
Scatter persistant shadows.
Things aren’t “good” or “bad”;
Not wonderful… not evil.
It’s us ascribing meaning.
When we learn to be
Present in every moment;
Only then will we find peace.
On a day that dawned
Cold and grey and blustery,
Welcome warming trends
Brought glowing sun and balm and
Legislative entropy!
Oh, how time has flown,
These five years, since your passing.
And yet, much remains
As it was before you left;
Consistently progressing.
~~
Not that you would know;
So invested, as you were,
In the status quo.
~~
Wait! That last harsh barb,
So bitter and unworthy,
Harkens back to grimmer times;
Long buried seething fury.
~~
So, the status quo
Remains beneath the surface
Like long neglected hunger.
~
I suppose healing
Sojourns can consume lifetimes;
And perhaps, even longer.
How can we pretend
Everything is peachy-keen
When it’s clearly fucked?
Did this nausea
Arise from something we ate
Or just from something swallowed?
Pyrrhic victories.
Is that all, to us, remains?
Hollow “told you sos”
Agonizingly bellowed
As the world, around us, burns?
Pastel morning sky
Orange trending lavender
Ominous portent
There is joy in art
Just in the act of making
Even when the product sucks.
Stallions yearn to run
Unteathered and unburdened
‘Cross unending amber land.
~
Yet it’s hard to roam
Once broke to yoke or saddle.
Bitter truth for horse and man.
True Ideals hold
Oh so much greater power
Than military might.
Must we surrender the one
In pursuit of the other?
Go speak of logic
To irrationality
If you’ve breath to waste
