With the floral hallowers
Of their ancient, sacred halls…

Take the measure of a man
Without finding shortcomings?

Must those whom we laude
Be unblemished specimens?
Can’t we see them, worts and all?

Carries us cross time and space
To a person and a place
Grateful we’ve not forgotten.
~
Sadly, though, it’s also true

To a place that’s best forgot
Sparking ancient pain as well.
