An open note to readers

I am beginning to feel like an explanation, or perhaps even a disclaimer, or four, is in order. When I began writing on WordPress, I did so for purely self-preservation reasons. I was caught in an emotional trap and felt a giant festering boil of vitriol building within me and I needed to lance that soon, before it drown my spirit. To that end, “Aroilinpain” has been a great success. I no longer feel consumed by the anger, resentment, fear, anxiety, and despair that was eroding my soul. For that I am eternally grateful.

In the process of trying to maintain a daily writing discipline, I have come to enjoy the journey not just as a release, but also as a fertilizer! I am finding that the more I write, the more I feel a need to express. Surprisingly, the more I express, the more people hear.
This has recently taken an amazing and frightening turn! People are actually reading what I’m writing and responding to it! Eek!

Now, for the Caveats and Disclaimers!

1. These words are Mine! They are about ME! If you read them and decide they are about YOU, seek therapy! If you remain convinced that these words are a personal affront or an indictment of your lifestyle, the time may be ripe for what the twelve steppers call a “Fearless Moral Inventory”; a close and brutally honest examination of your own thought, feelings, behaviors, and actions as well as an unvarnished look at the devastation these have rained down upon those closest to you! Just sayin’.

2. If you read these words and they resonate within you, evoke some emotion, or affect how you look at something and that makes you feel, or think, or act in a different and more life affirming way, then that is bonus but not to my credit. I just wrote some words, you did all the hard work. To paraphrase on of my childhood mentors, “Damn it, Jim! I’m a doctor, not a poet!”

3. If you read these words and your blood boils and you find yourself filling with rage, or hate, or despair then STOP READING! Like the positive response in the paragraph above, That is all about you and not about my words. In addition to the aforementioned advice to stop reading, you may also want to consider the advise in disclaimer paragraph 1 regarding therapy.

4. I am NOT writing for an audience! Some of the things I write will seem harsh, offensive, profane, cruel, and insensitive. Sorry. Please feel free to ignore that post and wait for the next. Please feel free to offer feedback about what I write. Please do not engage in rants or flames that exceed the length of my original post. Since I’m mostly writing poetry, this may be a challenge! Heart felt feedback and literary critique are welcome; personal assault is not,

In conclusion, I would like to offer my thanks to those of you who have expressed appreciation for my postings and my humble gratitude for those who have chosen to follow this blog. These two things lift my heart and inspire me more than I would ever have imagined!

Thank you,

Andy

  1. Well! I have a little problem. In the months since I created this blog, and began writing nearly daily, it seems that I have lanced the boil of my worst consuming anguish. Recently, my writing has taken on a more positive and forward focused tone that is almost opposite my blogs title. I don’t know what to do about that. I can’t write about pain or sorrow or anguish I don’t feel. I don’t want to take the effort or time to birth another blog. Definitely not that! I feel… odd… that my blog title is incongruent with recent content. I guess I am writing this comment as an opology to anyone who came here looking for something that is no longer, for now anyway, reflected in my writing. Sorry. Maybe when more misery comes my way, my writing and my blog title will be congruent again.

    • That’s….pretty funny. I hope that the title of your blog gets further and further away from the real you 🙂

I’m sure people will get used to the lack of misery.

  2. Hi Andy,

I am in awe of your creativity. It gives me something to aspire to. I (probably also the rest of your readers) would love to know more about how you weave your magical verses. I was recently nominated for a special kind of ‘award’ called Virtual Blog Tour that lets one share more than just list blogs we like and I would like pass on a nomination to you (Link to my post: http://wp.me/p4X3FK-lJ). Here are the rules if you’d like to accept:

    1. Pass the tour on to up to four other bloggers. Give them the rules and a specific Monday to post.

    2. Answer four questions about your creative process which lets other bloggers and visitors know what inspires you to do what you do:

•What am I working on at the moment?
•How does my work differ to others in my genre?
    •Why do I write/create what I do?
•How does my writing/creative process work?

    3. Compose a one-time post which is posted on a specific Monday (date given from your nominator).

The date I would like you to post on – 09 March.

Also please don’t feel obliged to do anything. The essence of the matter is that I am a fan!

    Best regards always, Sam.

  3. Wonderful stuff! So glad your blog has helped you and not just in the conventional way of gaining more followers which makes you feel better, but what you are posting has actually changed you and enabled you to connect with the real you.

  4. Andy, you can change the title of the blog without changing the URL and thus losing your following. I did that early on and although my URL doesn’t reflect my title, it works for me. Then again, leaving the title as is could be a wonderful reminder of where you have come.
